Bucerius Workshop on Managed Legal Services

2019-11-14 @ 14:00 - 16:00

Managed Legal Services Bucerius Conference

On November 14, 2019, the 9th Autumn Conference of the Bucerius Center on the Legal Profession (Bucerius CLP) will take place on the campus of the Bucerius Law School, Hamburg. Each year, the Bucerius CLP conference sets the benchmark with new ideas and brings together industry leaders and influencers in the field of legal innovation. This year, we will contribute to one of the Bucerius workshops organized at the annual conference!

Key Theme: Managed Legal Services

Commercial law firms are expanding their business models and developing ancillary “non-legal” services such as Project Management, Process Design or Data Visualisation. Many have already established their own “Legal Services Center”, in other cities and even other countries. These new standardized services, supported by legal technology, are needed to meet the growing demand from in-house counsel for solutions to complex problems that must be capable of being integrated into the client’s own systems and processes.

  • How will law firms respond? Will traditional legal advice recede entirely?
  • How will this affect the nature and quality of legal advice?
  • In-house legal departments themselves are currently getting to grips with “Legal Management”, how will they manage this change?

As in previous years, the Bucerius CLP conference offers insights into the latest developments in the legal market and provides a unique platform for exchanging views with key players in the changing legal industry.

14:15 to 16:30: Workshop III: Driver or straggler? A comparison of Managed Legal Services in Europe

On-Site: Bucerius Law School – Room 3

Are other countries more progressive in Managed Legal Services? Where does Germany stand when compared with other international markets? This workshop takes place in cooperation with the European Legal Technology Association (ELTA), whose ambassadors will report on the challenges and opportunities in their national jurisdictions. Orsolya Szabó of InvestCEE LegalTech Consultancy, in her role as ELTA Ambassador for Hungary, will share insights on Managed Legal Services in Hungary and the CEE region.
